REFLECTIONS IN A DARK ROOM
Site specific installation of twelve drawings presented at SITE/less in Chicago, IL - June 21-28, 2024, with three participating artists invited to perform at the opening in response to the show's theme: Érika Ordosgoitti, orr, and \|/∆/|\∆y∆ ‡()rr3s.
Built around exploring the limitations of human awareness, this collection is a meditation on what we illuminate with our attention through a fallible process of self reflection. We cannot arrive at this moment without experiencing everything that came before, and our present perspective changes how we view the past. Self reflection is a tool used to make meaning in our own lives by looking inward, to locate ourselves at the intersection of what we can perceive and the history that is available to give this moment context. By embracing the many poles of multitudinous binary dualities, we arrive in a space that is both specific and ambiguous. What is empirical informs what is imagined in a world of incomplete information, and as we confront our own history, it remains necessary to be aware of how we make meaning and why.
